The Scottish Arts Council’s National Lottery Partners’ initiative prioritised Highland 2007 projects which would provide opportunities for communities that have little or no experience of the arts.

Organisations offered support from the Partners initiative for artists’ residencies include:

  • Timespan Heritage Society - A two-year residency in Sutherland will lead a programme of activities for young people in Helmsdale
  • Orkney Island Council - A George Mackay Brown writing fellowship will be established in Orkney
  • Pier Arts Centre - an artist to work with the farming community pioneering a project combining art and agriculture
  • Cromarty Arts Trust - the residence in Cromarty, will involve two artists; one focusing on the past and one on the future
  • Burghead Headland Trust - reinterpreting the Pictish traditions of Burghead to reflect contemporary arts practice
  • The Highland Council Exhibitions Unit - A project to discover a new constellation for Highland 2007, drawing together art, science and literature
  • Community Woodlands Association - residential theatre tour of community woodlands with Te Pooka, Blazin’ Fiddles & local artists
  • The Buckie Festival - artist to develop community event for Buckie Festival and surrounding area
  • Highland Print Studio - to work with community groups in Lochcarron and Wester Ross
