The Highland Naturalists Project has been put together by staff from Scottish Natural Heritage working closely with author and naturalist, John Love, and the Edinburgh based contractors, Studio MB and Lighter Shade.
The exhibition celebrates the lives of Highland Naturalists, past and present, who have changed the way we think about the Highlands and Islands.
Their studies guide us through the early beginnings of natural history recording, through the 'Golden Age' of nature conservation and right up to the present day.
The exhibition draws attention to the valuable work that has taken place and has informed our understanding of the natural heritage and hopes to inspire others to continue this tradition with their own studies.
The exhibition opened at SNH's Inverness headquarters, Great Glen House, in June 2007 and is scheduled to travel to other locations in the Highlands over the next two years. It will will eventually permanently reside at Great Glen House.
The Highland Naturalists website - www.highlandnaturalists.com - provides a lasting legacy and resource for the future. In forthcoming years more naturalists will be added to the initial roll of thirty along with additional information and imagery to the virtual exhibition celebrating 300 years of Highland natural history. |
