Nairn International Jazz Festival
Fèis Eadar-nàiseanta Jazz Inbhir Narainn
4 – 11 August
World class musicians perform at the Nairn International Jazz Festival.  Expect an eclectic range of styles and gigs with acts such as the Curtis Stigers Quartet. Informal sets include a series of “Jazz in our Town" events which take performers to small, intimate community venues and the workshops / masterclasses offer a chance to gain some experience and insight into the artistry behind the performances. www.nairnjazz.com
Scottish 6 Day International Orienteering Championships
Farpaisean Eadar-nàiseanta Tòireachd 6 Latha na h-Alba
5 – 11 August
The Scottish 6 Day International Orienteering Championships are staged every two years, attracting participants from across the country and the world. The event has grown to over 3000 competitors in recent years and this year is held at Grantown on Spey, ensuring spectacular surroundings, a welcoming atmosphere and excellent terrain. A concert will mark the beginning of the competition with a ceilidh concluding the final evening. www.scottish6days.com
Ùrachadh
7 – 18 August
North West Sutherland’s heritage is encapsulated and showcased in Ùrachadh (‘renewal’ or ‘refreshment’). A combination of stunning visuals and live performances from singers and musicians James Graham, James Ross, Carol-Anne Mackay, Rhona Sutherland and Catriona MacLeod. The perfromance will take the audience on a journey through the area’s past in an evocative way and at the conclusion offer them an Ùrachadh in the form of a dram of Clynelish Malt Whisky, local to Sutherland. www.urachadh.org.uk
Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival

The eagerly-awaited Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival is an atmospheric celebration of music and performances suitable for the whole family. The Italian Gardens of Belladrum, by Beauly, is the setting for over 90 bands, including The Magic Numbers and James, as well as lively theatre shows, comedy, aerial displays, children’s entertainment, cabaret and street theatre. www.tartanheartfestival.co.uk
Cowal Highland Gathering
Cruinneachadh Gàidhealach Chomhghaill
23 – 25 August
Dunoon Stadium, Argyll is the stage for the Cowal Highland Gathering, an enticing programme of games, music and stalls attracting over 3500 competitors. Highland dancing, heavy athletics, solo piping, pipe bands, athletics and shinty are the featured events.  This year these events are supplemented by a range of attractions including the Cowal Ceilidh Tent, a platform for leading traditional music recording artists, fiddle players, harmonica virtuosos and local bands to perform. www.cowalgathering.com
Woodlands of Dalriada
Fearann Coillteach Dhal Riata
26 -29 August
This free event is a celebration of the woods of mid-Argyll. Four days of access and inclusive activity at three beautiful woodlands feature woodcraft, orienteering, guided walks, music and heritage.
