Celebrating Stornoway – the Maritime Heritage

Celebrating Stornoway – the Maritime Heritage centres on Stornoway's maritime history, a central element of the area’s heritage.  Focusing on the role of women in the fishing industry; aspects of the two World Wars including the loss of the 'Iolaire', as well the RNR and Merchant Navy; and the fishing boats and fishing trade. Hebridean Celtic Festival

The internationally renowned Hebridean Celtic Festival is a musical celebration of traditional, contemporary and world music. The event incorporates various venues and centres on Lews Castle in Stornoway. The programme includes audience favourites such as The Proclaimers and Moving Hearts. The Skye Festival
Fèis an Eilein
13 – 27 July
The Skye Festival / Fèis an Eilein, is Scotland’s biggest small festival. For its 16th year, over the course of two weeks, around 90 events will take place throughout the Isle of Skye and surrounding area. The festival incorporates traditional music, children’s events, world music, theatre, film, walks, workshops and the book festival Aos Dana. InvernessFest

14 – 29 July
Traditional and contemporary Highland culture and critically acclaimed performers from further afield are sure to be highlights of the highly anticipated InvernessFest, taking place across the city of Inverness. The celebrations are launched in style with a performance from Sir Elton John and his Band. The programme also incorporates such highlights as City Jam, the Tulloch Inverness Highland Games featuring World Highland Games Championships, RBS Inverness Highland Tattoo, InvernessFest Club and Fringe and the European Pipe Band Championships.
War of the Worlds
Cogadh nan t-Saoghail
14 -19 July
An enticing opportunity to try stilt-walking and theatre is presented by the War of the Worlds participation workshops. The W.O.W street action group performs as scientists studying alien creatures in their laboratories. The aliens have escaped from the labs and are now pursuing the scientists. www.the-big-shop.org
Clan Munro International Gathering
Cruinneachadh Eadar-Nàiseanta a’ Chlann-Rothach
29 July
For the first time the largest clan event in the calendar is open to locals and visitors, as well as to clan members. Held once every 5 – 10 years, this years event marks the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Clan Munro (Association). Throughout the day there will be music, displays, storytelling and more. The venues include historic sites not usually open to visitors, with Foulis Castle, near Evanton, the central setting.
