Energy - North Sea Portraits
Cùmhachd – Dealbhan a’ Chuain a Tuath
Scotland first struck oil 30 years ago. As the "black gold" was pumped ashore a new workforce evolved. Portrait painter Fionna Carlisle, from Wick, has created 24 original portraits of oil workers which capture personality alongside appearance and are destined to become national treasures. George Bain - Master of Celtic Art
Seòras Mac ‘Ille Bhàin - Seòd nan ealan Ceilteach
How did the Celts and the Picts create their distinctive designs?  George Bain, born in Scrabster in the 19th century, studied innovative artistic techniques employed by the ancients.  He is credited as the father of modern Celtic design and his work can be seen at the Swanson Gallery, Thurso, between 24 February and 17 March and throughout the Highlands thereafter. BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Orcastra Shimphnidh BBC Alba
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra joins forces with Highland Regional Youth Orchestra in a concert featuring 180 musicians at Aviemore Highland Resort on Saturday 24 March. The talented players of the HRYO exhibit their virtuosity in Chabrier’s exotic Spanish Rhapsody, and join the BBC SSO in three works including the world premiere of ‘Fling’, a high-spirited score written to celebrate Highland 2007 by Scottish Composer John McLeod.
The award-winning BBC SSO, under the baton of American conductor Clark Rundell, performs some of the great classics,including Aaron Copland’s exciting celebration of the cowboy, Billy the Kid. For more details see www.bbc.co.uk/bbcsso
Celtic Media Festival
Fèis nam Meadhanan Ceilteach
Come to the misty Isle of Skye and get a clear vision of key events in Celtic broadcasting.  Celebrating and promoting cultures and languages of the Celtic countries and regions, delegates from all the Celtic nations come together to recognise quality, originality and achievement on screen and in broadcasting.  The festival is based in the Aros Centre in Portree and runs from the 28 to 30 March.  Visit www.celticfilm.co.uk for more information.
Big Willow - Story of the Stones
Seileach Mòr - Sgeulachd nan Clachan
Tickets are now on sale for the Big Willow Story of the Stones / Sgeulachd nan Clachan event taking place at Brahan Estate on 26 May.  Join a lantern lit procession through woodland teeming with fantastical, acrobatic, creatures created by te POOKa. Hear music from Blazin Fiddles as the incredible, Big Willow sculptures are set on fire and confined to a place in the rich tradition of Highland myth and magic. InvernessFest Fringe Grants

InvernessFest will be a celebration of traditional and contemporary culture (15 to 29 July), featuring fringe entertainment by, and about, the many different cultures and cultural groups active in the city of Inverness - Gaelic, Scottish, Polish, Chinese, Urdu, and many others. To ensure the widest possible participation, a number of small grants are available to individuals and groups to organise and stage events that reflect this theme. See the news release for more information.
