FERGUSSON’S STUDIO allows a rare glimpse into the artist’s studio, the main area of creative activity that is rarely seen or spoken about. Fergusson lived in a number of studios in France and Britain during his lifetime. From his early beginnings at his parent’s house in Edinburgh, to his time in the fashionable artists’ district of Paris and Cap d’Antibes in the South of France his paintings record his changing influences. Fergusson returned to Scotland, in 1939, where he settled with Margaret Morris. They took a flat at 4 Clouston Street, Glasgow and remained there until his death in 1961.
The Fergusson Gallery houses the world's largest collection of work by the celebrated Scottish Colourist artist John Duncan Fergusson (1874-1961). The extensive collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures is shown in a programme of changing exhibitions. The Gallery is housed in a former Water Works dating from 1832. The unusual building was converted to The Fergusson Gallery in 1992.
