Tricks of DeLight in Cromarty!
15 November 2007

If you go down to Cromarty this weekend, you’re sure of a big surprise!  As part of the on-going Sea Cromarty Sparkle winter festival, the town will come alive on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th November with projections and coloured lights adorning some of the streets and buildings in the centre.

The ideas have come about through collaboration between Sea Cromarty Sparkle and Arts in Motion, based in Evanton.  Using pieces already in existence plus material specific to Cromarty, seven projections will be running from 7pm until 10pm (9pm on Sunday) at a variety of locations.  The public are invited to follow the coloured street lamps which will lead them round the trail of atmospheric, fun and even bizarre images.

In the Londis car park on Bank Street, you can witness the giant steel Sea Eagle, seen in Inverness in 2006 as part of the ‘Imagining the Centre’ celebrations.  Come along during the day between 12-4pm and be filmed by the Eagle’s eye, then return in the evening to see a snippet of yourself as part of this powerful projection – a truly interactive experience.

Round the corner by Cromarty Primary School you will find Neptune’s Throne – a huge, spectacular chair created out of driftwood which you are invited to sit on and become part of an underwater grotto.  The Primary children have created fish which will be swimming all over the Lighthouse and you don’t want to miss taking a peek at the mysterious ‘TV Man’ who resides at 21 High Street.  You can also munch on pizza and sip mulled wine as you witness these amazing sights, courtesy of special carry-out deals at Sutor Creek.

“We’ve tapped into the wealth of experience which John McGeogh from Arts in Motion has in this area and utilised some of Cromarty’s many white-washed walls which provide the perfect canvas for projections like these” commented Georgia Macleod, Sea Cromarty Sparkle Co-ordinator.   “We think people will really enjoy seeing Cromarty as they’ve never seen it before.”

Another projection on show will be a giant version of the Community Photo, taken back in June when 380 Cromarty residents turned out to be photographed for posterity.  This picture, along with individual and group shots also taken at that time, will be on show in the Victoria Hall, Cromarty over this weekend.  Anyone can come and have a look between 10.30am and 4pm and place an order for photos they wish to purchase.

These projects have been generously funded by Highland 2007, Awards for All and HIE.
