Triathlon for people with learning difficulties. Saturday 9 June 2007 as part of the Highland 2007 programme.
Highland Disability Sport are holding an invitational Scottish Championships Triathlon Relay Event, as part of Highland 2007, for participants with learning disabilities throughout Scotland.
The event is sponsored by Highland 2007, Event Scotland and Awards for All and is supported by Triathlon Scotland the sport’s Governing Body.
The event has attracted 17 teams from Glasgow, Aberdeen, Lothian, Aberdeenshire, Fortrose, Cantraybridge and Inverness.
The Triathlon will see participants, each of who should be 16 years or older on the day, in teams of three, or as individuals, compete in a relay event consisting of swimming (200m), followed by running (1600m) and finishing on cycling (1500m) in and around Inverness Sports Centre, the Aquadome and Queens Park Athletics Track.
The event will be held in five heats against the clock. The winning team will be the team with the quickest aggregate time.
The events are planned to coincide with one of Shinty’s Major Cup Finals, the McTavish Cup, all to be held on the same day at locations adjacent to each other.
In this way the competitors will have the benefit of participating in one sporting event, followed by spectating at one of Highland’s major indigenous sporting events.
To encourage participation Highland Disability Sport has provided free accommodation to all teams and their carers for Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June at Inverness Youth Hostel.
The event will promote the Highlands as a great place to visit and will provide people from around Scotland the chance to participate in a unique event.
The first heat of the event will commence at 9.30am on Saturday 9 June at Inverness Aquadome and Sports Centre - spectators are very welcome.
The Awards Ceremony will be held at a dinner on Saturday night in Inverness Thistle Hotel.
