More Artists Get Connected
30 March 2007

With music fans snapping up tickets quicker than you can say Inveraray Castle, DF Concerts reveal more of the eclectic and groundbreaking lineup confirmed for Connect Festival on 31 August to 2 September 2007.

The legendary Jarvis Cocker will make a welcome return to the festival stage as he plays The Oyster Stage on Friday. The Trashcan Sinatras will open the festival when they play first on The Oyster Stage on Friday and The Divine Comedy will play the same stage on Saturday.  In addition, one of the most influential cult acts in rock & roll, Big Star are confirmed to play on Sunday as they take to The Guitars and Other Machines Stage with Fife’s James Yorkston playing it on Friday. Another Scottish act making an appearance includes My Latest Novel, playing The Guitars and Other Machines Stage on Sunday.

Such diverse artists will join a wealth of international, UK and Scottish talent already revealed to play the inaugural Connect Festival from DF Concerts. The Beastie Boys, Primal Scream and Bjork The Oyster Stage and The Jesus and Mary Chain, CSS, The Only Ones, Mogwai and LCD Soundsystem will all be playing the same stage across the weekend. The Guitars & Other Machines tent will host amongst others, Idlewild, and Tilly and the Wall on Sunday and King Creosote and The Go Team! on Friday. In addition, Optimo and Nouvelle Vague will be playing The Manicured Noise stage on Friday.

Part of Scotland’s Highland 2007 celebrations, Connect will take place in the fairy-tale grounds of Inveraray Castle, situated on the banks of Loch Fyne, Inveraray in Argyll.  It will not only feature an eclectic mix of bands, artists and DJ’s, but also a plethora of alternative entertainment, ranging from local food and drink offerings in the Circuses and Bread Field that will seriously tantalise your taste buds, to magical woodland walks, comedians, old school games in the Double Six Club mixed with a touch of the Highland Games, visual artists and installations, and the strange and unusual in performance in The Unknown Pleasures Tent from Club Noir and Vegas on Saturday and Sunday night respectively.

Continuing to be at the forefront of supporting Scottish unsigned talent, DF Concerts also brings to Connect the Your Sound Bandstand.  Following on from the very successful Your Sound networking event, which is hosted monthly in King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and gives unsigned bands a great opportunity to not only showcase their talent, but also to mingle with experts in the music field, the bandstand will host 20 of the very best unsigned artists chosen from the term 1 and 2 playlists over 2 days.

Tickets went on sale on Friday, March 23rd. To avoid disappointment, we would encourage all music fans to be quick off the mark and log onto www.connectmusicfestival.com or call ticketmaster on 0870 169 0100.

Notes to editors:

  • Jarvis Cocker
The former Pulp frontman has left his Britpop days far behind him, carving out a successful solo career and moving from his Sheffield hometown to Paris.
Pulp went on indefinite hiatus in 2002 leaving Cocker free to focus on collaborative projects with various musicians and even appear in a Harry Potter film, playing alongside members of Radiohead in a band called The Weird Sisters. His debut album, simply called Jarvis, was released in November last year, winning praise from critics and fans alike.
  • Big Star
The quintessential American power pop band Big Star remain one of the most influential cult acts in rock n roll. Three decades after their legendary album Third a.k.a. Sister Lovers was recorded the band have returned with In Space, and now singer Alex Chilton and his ramshackle but poignantly beautiful songs are coming to Connect.
The band’s sound has earned them a significant cult following, and with fellow musicians as well as music fans – with everyone from REM to Teenage Fanclub citing them as an influence on their music.
  • Trashcan Sinatras
Scottish indie-pop stalwarts the Trash Can Sinatras were founded outside of Glasgow in 1987 releasing their first single Obscurity Knocks in 1990. Debut album Cake became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, the band’s jangle pop sound a particular favourite with US college radio stations. Their second LP I’ve Seen Everything, was released in 1993 with third studio album A Happy Pocket following in 1999, however neither fared as well as their band’s debut. Then in 2004 they staged a triumphant return with Spin Art release Weightlifting and a world tour which had them wowing old fans and gaining new ones with their sunshiny melodies.
  • James Yorkston
Hailing from the Kingdom of Fife guitar playing singer James Yorkston signed to Domino records after finding fans in the late great John Peel and folk legend John Martyn. Since then he’s released three albums, Moving up Country in 2002, Just Beyond the River in 2004 and The Year of the Leopard last year and has had various releases on other labels, including collaborations with other Fence Collective artists. He recently contributed to Ballad of the Books, a long awaited album of literary and musical collaborations.
  • The Divine Comedy
The Divine Comedy, aka Neil Hannon, built up a strong cult following in the 1990s before achieving more mainstream success with critically acclaimed records Becoming More Like Alfie and Radio 1 favourite Something for the Weekend. On Valentine’s Day 1997 the band released A Short Album About Love, following this up with 1999 release A Secret History. After the release of Regeneration Hannon decided to go solo, move to Dublin and start a family. Then in 2004 he returned with the critically acclaimed, self-produced Absent Friend and it was back to the studio last year for the Divine Comedy's ninth album, Victory for the Comic Muse, which featured 28 other musicians and was recorded in just two weeks.
  • My Latest Novel
This Scottish five-piece team breezy folk melodies and brilliant pop theatrics with violins, xylophones and undulating percussion creating a sound that’s seen them hailed as the “Glaswegian Arcade Fire” by music magazine NME. Their debut single Sister Sneaker Sister Soul received rave reviews with The List describing it as “awesome, wide-eyed folk rock majesty” and the band released their debut album Wolves in March 2006 to similar acclaim.
