Past and present members of North East folk band Old Blind Dogs are coming together for two special gigs to mark the 15th anniversary of their founding in Aberdeen in 1992.
With financial support from Highland 2007, Aberdeen’s Lemon Tree and the Universal Hall, Findhorn provide the perfect double headed platform for an evening which promises to be one for the diary. With such a significant back catalogue to draw from, these two special concerts will take us on ‘The Dogs musical journey, which has produced 9 CD’s, many tours around the world and gained respect as a band, which has continued to grow and change, to become one of Scotland’s most well loved and established traditional outfits.
With a line up which reads like a who’s who of the Scottish folk scene, current members Jonny Hardie, Fraser Stone , Aaron Jones and Rory Campbell with former members Ian F Benzie, Davy Cattanach, Buzzby Macmillan, Fraser Fifield, Paul Jennings, Jim Malcolm are rising to the delicious challenge of choosing their all time favourites. Expect to hear such weel kent songs as ‘The Gadie’, ‘Twa Corbies’ and Kincardine Lads’ and tunes the like of ‘Soup of the Day’, ‘The Harris Dance’ and ‘Rejected Souter’.
The only remaining founder member and fiddle player Jonny Hardie said: "It’s such a terrific opportunity to bring everybody together who has contributed to this amazing ongoing adventure that is Old Blind Dogs. Fifteen years has seen us travel a lot of music miles together, all filled with stories, some of which we’re looking forward to sharing with our fans at the gigs."
John MacLennan of the Highland 2007 Management Group in Moray said: "Highland 2007 in Moray is a partnership between Highland 2007, The Moray Council and HIE Moray and we’re delighted to have been able to offer this excellent band, itself a partnership of some of Scotland’s top musicians, which has done so much to keep our traditions alive, support towards producing their DVD. It’ll form part of the legacy of Highland 2007, the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture."
The band will also play tracks from their new cd, which is to be released in April by Compass/Vertical records. And if more incentive was needed, a special anniversary DVD is being filmed at the Findhorn gig for release later this year.
Catch the Dogs, old and new at the Lemon Tree on 9 April as part of the ‘Rootin Aboot’ Festival and the next night 10 April in the Universal Hall, Findhorn.
