Food Map Opens Gates to Farms and Crofts Across the Highlands and Islands

Highlands and Islands Press RElease - A spectacular Highland Food Map was launched today (Tuesday) at Glachbeg Croft Education Centre on the Black Isle by the Highlands & Islands Local Food Network (HILFN), which producers hope will encourage people to choose fresh, locally produced food and support local farmers and crofters.

Nairn Schools Attempt Record Breaking Dance at Victorian Bandstand Re-opening

The Highland Council Press Release - Following the official re-opening of the Victorian Wallace Bandstand in Nairn today (Friday 22nd June, 2007), 1700 pupils from local schools will attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records by dancing a progressive Dashing White Sergeant continuously for 10 minutes around the links at Nairn.

St Kilda, 'the island on the edge of the world' is to be celebrated across Europe in a spectacular theatrical production taking place on June 22 and 23. It will be performed simultaneously in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Scotland with elements of the show transmitted by live satellite link from St Kilda. Each venue will produce and stage performances based on the same shared script, score, libretto and pre-filmed footage, but each with its own distinct interpretation. Live performances in each venue will be set against a backdrop of a vertigo-inducing film of the French vertical dance company Retouramont performing a dramatic aerial ballet suspended from the Hebridean cliffs.

Spinning the Yarn with a Literary Meander

The Highland Council Press Release - This summer, in celebration of Highland 2007, Scotland’s Year Of Highland Culture, libraries in Kingussie, Nairn, Inverness and Glen Urquhart will host a unique event which will bring together weavers of stories and spinners of wool to provide a uniquely Highland literary experience.  To compliment the event and carry on the spinning theme, an exhibition of eye catching artworks in various mediums called Weaving With Words will be winding its way around these and other libraries until the end of the year.

Capercaillie Singer To Open Gaelic Festival On Iona

Capercallie singer Karen Matheson will be joined on Friday (8th June) by school children from across Argyll and Ireland to open a major festival of Scottish and Irish Gaelic culture taking place in Iona, Mull and Oban this weekend. Fèill Chaluim Chille, organised by Colmcille, will feature a host of cultural activities which celebrate the links between Gaelic Ireland and Scotland, with the highlight of the weekend a Gala concert featuring Capercallie and other top Celtic bands at Torosay Castle on Saturday.

The Worlds on Tour

Monster Million Pound Payout For Biggest Ever Nessie Hunt!

The largest ever organised attempt to prove the existence of the Loch Ness Monster will take place next weekend when up to 35,000 people are supplied with thousands of cameras and offered a £1 Million incentive by bookmakers William Hill to find evidence which will finally persuade the Natural History Museum to admit that Nessie is flesh (or perhaps fish) and blood and not a myth.

Team Nike (USA/NZ) Retain World Adventure Racing Title
